Want to file inheritance and gift tax returns electronically? SureSync handles the process through Digipoort

Software vendors that develop tax filing software for notaries, estate administrators and tax professionals face the same technical challenge: How do you submit the XBRL tax return to the Tax Authority in an automated, controlled manner? Building and maintaining a Digipoort integration yourself takes time, requires certificates and connection certification and isn’t part of your core product.

SureSync Reporting is the layer under the hood. Your application sends the XBRL document to our platform via a REST API. We check for technical accuracy, validate against the SBR taxonomy, and submit it to Digipoort. You retrieve statuses and validation results via the same API to display them in your own software. One integration, every return via the same route.

Why Use SureSync Reporting for inheritance and gift tax?

From validated XBRL to a confirmed tax return filed with the Tax Authority

Our software takes over the process from the moment your application submits the XBRL document. We validate it against the SBR taxonomy for inheritance and gift taxes, submit it via Digipoort, and feed every status update back into your system. That way, you (and your client) know exactly when a return has been received and accepted. No need for your own Digipoort scripts, no third-party intermediaries, and no manual uploads.

Digipoort without the Digipoort headache

SureSync handles the connection to Digipoort, certificates, connection certification, and maintenance. You focus on your tax filing software; we focus on ensuring a reliable connection to the Tax Authority. Even if you’re submitting data on behalf of dozens or hundreds of offices, there’s a single technical connection.

Compliant, verifiable and self-managed

Validation against the current SBR taxonomy for inheritance and gift taxes, including annual taxonomy updates. Through the Management Dashboard, you have direct insight into submitted documents, statuses, and validation results. You can manage API keys for each end user in the same dashboard. When a customer has questions, you’ll find the information you need right where you’re looking. Whether you process 2,000, 10,000, or more returns per year, the solution scales automatically.

Built by the team behind Digipoort

SureSync Reporting was developed by the team that helped establish the SBR taxonomies and Digipoort. The same expertise behind our CbC, KVK, and DORA solutions powers our inheritance and gift tax filing: schema-level validation, automatic processing of taxonomy changes, and direct integration with all relevant government channels. From XBRL document to a confirmed tax return filed with the Tax Authority, in five steps. The tax return is prepared in the tax return software. SureSync Reporting handles validation and submission via Digipoort. Status updates are returned to the tax return software via the API.

  1. The end user (advisor, notary, executor, accountant, tax specialist, consultant) prepares the tax return in the tax return software. The application generates an XBRL document. Optionally, SureSync can perform the conversion from Excel to XBRL.
  2. The tax return software sends the XBRL document to SureSync Reporting via the REST API, authenticated with the relevant user’s API key.
  3. SureSync Reporting checks the technical accuracy of the document and validates it against the applicable SBR taxonomy for inheritance and gift tax.
  4. If the document is valid, SureSync Reporting submits the return to Digipoort. Digipoort processes the return and confirms receipt.
  5. Each status is recorded and can be retrieved via the API, including the validation result as a PDF. The tax return software displays the status to the end user. If a validation error occurs, the user can see what is wrong and resubmit the return.

For software providers, there is also a Management Dashboard that provides an overview of all submitted documents, their statuses, and API key management per end user.

For the inheritance tax return and the gift tax return. As long as your tax filing software generates an XBRL document that complies with the SBR taxonomy for inheritance and gift taxes, SureSync Reporting handles validation and submission via Digipoort.

No. To file a return, you need tax filing software that generates the XBRL document, such as the Integrale Nalatenschap Tool (INT) from XS2IT. SureSync Reporting operates within this system and handles the submission to Digipoort. Are you a notary’s office, accounting firm, or executor? If so, choose tax filing software that submits via SureSync.

No. Any software provider that offers inheritance and gift tax filing software and generates a valid XBRL document can integrate with our system. Examples include Exact, Nextens, AFAS, EPX, and TechKNOW. INT was the first to go live. If your application doesn’t generate XBRL but does provide structured data in Excel, we can offer an Excel template plus conversion to XBRL as an additional service.

You don’t have to build or maintain a Digipoort connection yourself. Integration requires three one-time changes to your application: submitting an XBRL document instead of an Excel file, setting up a REST API connection with authentication, and retrieving status updates via the API instead of via email. Our APIs are well-documented, and customers typically implement them quickly. From that point on, you’ll have access to a Management Dashboard for oversight and API key management, and you’ll pay an annual license fee plus a variable rate per submitted return.

The inheritance tax return must be filed with the Tax Authority within eight months of the date of death. For the gift tax return, the deadline is March 1 of the year following the year in which the gift was made. In certain cases, an extension may be granted by the Tax Authority.

The software provider and the end user. SureSync validates the XBRL document technically and against the SBR taxonomy, and handles the submission. The party that prepares the return remains responsible for its substantive accuracy.

Yes. SureSync is ISO 27001-certified, every connection is encrypted, and the Digipoort connection meets Logius’s requirements. For each tax return, we maintain a complete audit trail: who submitted it, which version, and when the confirmation from the Tax Authority was received.

The pricing consists of three components: a one-time onboarding fee, an annual license for SureSync Reporting, and a variable rate per successfully filed return. Inheritance tax and gift tax each have their own filing rate. This way, you pay based on usage and scale your costs as your business grows. To receive a customized quote, schedule a consultation.
