Find out which home care technology truly saves care hours—for every client

For 6 out of 10 clients, home care technology reduces the number of care hours needed; for the other 4, it does not. With SureSync Home Care Technology, you can use AI to estimate in advance, for each client, whether technology will make a difference. Afterward, you can see the results in a single dashboard.

Developed by EscuLine, part of SureSync—the leading specialist in providing insights into healthcare data. Based on research conducted by MeanderGroep Zuid-Limburg, Vierstroom Zorg Thuis, and EscuLine among more than 3,400 clients and nearly 5,000 instances of technology use.

Know in advance what technology delivers, and demonstrate it afterward

More and more home care organizations are adopting technology: medication dispensers, fall detection, video care, and remote monitoring. Staff shortages make this necessary. Yet it often becomes clear only after the fact whether technology actually benefits a client. Decisions are made based on assumptions or on suppliers’ claims. With SureSync Home Care Technology, you can make that decision in advance with solid evidence. Based on client characteristics, our AI model estimates the likelihood that a particular technology will result in fewer care hours for that specific client. This allows you to deploy technology where it makes a difference and avoid using it where it has no effect. The assessment supports the community nurse; the decision remains with the team. After implementation, you can see in a single dashboard:

  • technology deployment by region, neighborhood, insurer, and funding type;

  • how usage evolves over time;

  • how the number of care hours changes before and after the technology is implemented.

This allows you to substantiate decisions about scaling up, conduct targeted discussions with teams, and strengthen your position in negotiations with health insurers and procurement organizations.

Tested in the field, not conceived behind a desk

The model behind SureSync Home Care Technology was developed in collaboration with MeanderGroep Zuid-Limburg and Vierstroom Zorg Thuis and tested by actual neighborhood care teams. In the study, each client using the technology was compared with ten similar clients who did not use the technology. This allows you to see the effect of the technology itself, rather than the result of chance or changing care needs. So you’re not starting from scratch. The approach stems from the AI innovations of EscuLine, a division of SureSync.

Care Hours and Technology Deployment at a Glance

Link the use of home care technology directly to the number of care hours provided. Find out which technology actually saves time for which teams and clients, and where the expected savings aren’t materializing. The latter is just as valuable: it prevents you from continuing to invest in technology that doesn’t make a difference in your situation.

Quick insights, using data you already have

The dashboard uses existing data on technology deployment and hours of care provided. You don’t need to set up new data collection systems or go through a lengthy implementation process. Thanks to integrations with the most common electronic health records (EHRs), you’ll quickly gain actionable insights. This applies to individual organizations as well as to a consortium of multiple home care providers.

The Right Home Care Technology for the Right Client

For 6 out of 10 clients, home care technology results in an average reduction of three hours of care per month. For the other 4, it does not. How can you tell in advance who belongs to which group? In this webinar, we’ll discuss what home care technology actually contributes to in terms of reducing hours in community nursing. The results are more down-to-earth than is often claimed, and that is precisely why they are useful for making strategic decisions.

Home care technology is the umbrella term for digital tools that support care delivery in the home, ranging from simple emergency buttons to sensors that automatically monitor health data. It helps clients live independently for longer while receiving the care they need.

Broadly speaking, there are four categories: monitoring devices for vital signs such as blood pressure and heart rate; medication dispensers that ensure medication is taken at the right time; emergency alert systems; and communication technology—such as video calls—that enables remote care. In addition, there is a distinction between passive technology, which requires action on the part of the client, and active technology, which detects abnormalities on its own.

Not automatically. Experience shows that technology only helps reduce the number of care hours when its use is well-aligned with the client profile and the team. Understanding this relationship is therefore just as important as the technology itself: it reveals where opportunities lie and where adjustments are needed.

SureSync Home Care Technology was developed for community-based care organizations—typically those with more than 20 clients—such as home care providers and organizations that collaborate within a regional network. The underlying model is partly based on research conducted at Meander and Vierstroom and is tailored to each organization.

Our AI model estimates in advance, for each client, the likelihood that technology will lead to fewer care hours. This estimate supports the community nurse; the final decision remains with the team. Soon, you’ll automatically receive this impact analysis as soon as a care plan is created or technology is ordered in the ECD. Afterward, SureSync combines existing data on technology use with trends in care hours into a single overview. This allows you to see, for each team and client profile, which technologies actually contribute to more efficient care—without requiring new data sources.

Esculine, a division of SureSync, provides a detailed description of what home care technology entails, the different categories involved, and how it works in practice. This approach stems from Esculine’s AI innovation program, in which research into the use of care technology is further developed into practical applications.
